If you’re anything like my family and like to read as a hobby, chances are your house is loaded with books. And, if you’re like my Grandpa, loaded is an understatement. For him, he has three rooms literally lined with bookshelves. Myself, I have a small bedroom that has no space for books, except for the shelves embedded in my nightstand. It’s there I keep my favorite classics. On top of that nightstand, I have a vast library.
That library is lighter than a single paperback, thinner than a pencil, and it fit’s in my back pocket. Of course, I’m talking about an e-reader. Namely the Amazon Kindle. The device that can save you space, money, and even time.
We live in a time where technology is advancing at a faster pace than ever before. In affect it is improving the way we do things. Swords have been replaced by guns, candles have been replaced by light bulbs, and horses have been replaced by cars. Now it’s possible that Kindle just might replace paper books.
With Kindle, you can store thousands of books on this little device and even if you run out of space, you can read books from the cloud. You don’t even have to buy the books! You can literally borrow books for your Kindle at your local library. Or, even more convenient, you can sign up for Kindle Unlimited and get thousands of books for just $9.99 a month. The Kindle is for sure a money saver for the avid reader.
The device is also a time saver. Before when I would come across a word I was unfamiliar with, I would have to look up that word’s definition myself. Or, if I was feeling lazy, I wouldn’t even bother and just continue reading. With Kindle, I can touch whichever word I do not understand and it will bring up a dictionary, the Wikipedia article, and even a translator. If you choose to, you can select an option that will have Kindle automatically show you a definitions for difficult words, without any effort on your part. Any word you look up is then sent to the “Vocabulary Builder” application to help you master them!
Of course, all these features are on our modern smartphones (kindle even has an app for yours.) After you see the rich e-ink display that looks just like real paper. You’ll come to the conclusion that the Kindle’s screen supersedes all other screens when it comes to reading. Amazon’s Kindle Voyage would by my e-reader of choice, it has the best balance of features to price ratio, in my opinion. But, there are several options, and you may be surprised at how cheap these wonderful devices can be had for.
